Connect With Nature
Monitoring bluebirds is a fun and easy way to connect with nature and learn about bluebirds. You can monitor a nest box in your own backyard, or become a trail monitor for one of the area bluebird trails.
Why become a Monitor?
By volunteering as a bluebird monitor, you will have the opportunity to experience the life cycle of the bluebird in their natural habitat. Monitoring a nest box is easy and requires very little time! Follow these steps when monitoring:
- Step 1: Observe the nest box.
- Step 2: Record your data at nestwatch.org
- Step 3: Enjoy watching them!

Beaver Creek Reserve has partnered with Cornell's Lab of Ornithology in New York, to develop an online data monitoring curriculum so that bluebird monitors can document all data collected during the weekly monitoring season (April to August).
Once all the nesting season is over, volunteer monitors are highly encouraged to document their data online. Your documented data will be used to track the sustainability of these birds and track migrating records for years to come.
