Imagine the moon, planets and galaxies appearing 200 times larger and 10,000 times brighter than when seen by the naked eye! This special opportunity is available at the Hobbs Observatory.

Hobbs Observatory consists of two domes with computer-operated telescopes, a large lecture room and a resource room. It features a digital camera that allows images from the telescopes to be stored on computer disks or transmitted to a video projector in the classroom. The observatory is operated cooperatively by Beaver Creek Reserve, the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire Dept. of Physics & Astronomy and the Chippewa Valley Astronomical Society.

Observatory ScheduleHours: Open for public observing on clear Saturday nights from May through October.

  • May: 9 p.m. - Midnight

  • June & July: 10 p.m. - Midnight

  • August & September: 9 p.m. - Midnight

  • October 8 p.m. - Midnight

Admission: Donation is appreciated to help maintain the observatory.

Special Programs: Every third Saturday of each month at 8 p.m. for astronomical programs put on by the Astronomical Society. Check the calendar of events for upcoming programs.
